The Psychological Effect That Music Has On Working Out

Are you having trouble getting motivated to work out at home? A recent study showed that participants who listened to music that they liked had higher levels of the feel good hormone serotonin. The psychological effects of music cause physical changes in hormones. This could actually put you in a better mood for your workout, and increase your stamina. If you’re having trouble getting started, it can make exercise anything but boring. A strong, steady beat can help you run or pedal to the beat of the music, motivating you to exercise more.

Studies have shown that music with a faster pace can help improve athletic performance by helping you increase your reps. A 2006 study found that participants who ran while listening to fast-paced music increased their distance and the pace they ran. Another study in 2010  states that music can improve your athletic performance in two ways. It can either increase your capacity or delay your fatigue. Music leads to more strength and power, and higher endurance levels. It’s easier to distract your mind from discomfort or fatigue when a song you enjoy is distracting you. So get up, and turn on some music and get moving! Music can put some pep in your step to work out.
